One of my favorite spots

This is one of my most favorite spots, the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. I have done live painting there, and live painting of wedding at other resorts. The view, the boats, it’s one of the things I love about Maine. I also love the smell but that’s hard to paint..lol. I love the light playing on the water and the contrast of dark and light, hard line and flowing water. I’m using more color now in my work, moving away from the ink. Maybe I’m softening.. who knows.

This year has been a tough one to paint outside from tons of rain, to wicked hot, to now smokey skys. Seems like the light is off this year and if the light s off, well the whole painting can be off. Where are those iconic blue skys, the hard contrasts, the soft light, the colors in the water. Summers not over yet but it’s such a short season in Maine.. Get out and paint!!
